History of Coca-Cola Amphitheater in Birmingham, Alabama 

The Coca-Cola Amphitheater, Alabama, opened its doors in the summer of 2025, marking a major milestone for the city’s cultural and entertainment scene. It’s situated at 2350 15th Avenue North, in the Druid Hills area just north of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC). The $46.1 million development was designed to be a top destination venue for live performances in the region. 

The idea for the Coca-Cola Amphitheater was conceived in September 2022 as a key component of Corporate Realty’s “The Star at Uptown,” which is a mixed-use redevelopment of the former Carraway Hospital site. Originally called the Carraway Amphitheater, the site experienced various name changes during its planning, such as The Star at Uptown Amphitheater and Birmingham Amphitheater. In November 2024, Coca-Cola Bottling Company UNITED acquired a 10-year naming rights contract, officially designing the construction as the Coca-Cola Amphitheater. 

The outdoor arena, which accommodates 9,380 attendees, is owned by the BJCC Authority and operated by Live Nation. This partnership led to the decision to replace Live Nation’s 12,000-seat Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Pelham, which was put on the market in 2023 with a restrictive covenant preventing its continued use for live music performances. 

The Coca-Cola theater hosted over 20 shows during its first season, featuring various popular acts and tours such as the Thomas Rhett: Better In Boots Tour, Jason Aldean’s Full Throttle Tour, Matt Rife: Stay Golden Tour, and Riley Green: Damn Country Music Tour. This established Coca-Cola as a key player in Birmingham’s entertainment scene. The development is seen as a catalyst for economic growth, attracting visitors and stimulating the local economy while enhancing Birmingham’s reputation as an energetic city brimming with entertainment.
